MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis is in the second week of its first phase of the “back-to-business” plan.
Norman Burford was excited to be back out.
These days, that means taking extra precautions.
“I try to keep as much PPE as I can in the car, at home, definitely when I’m out and obviously in public spaces,” said Burford.
Burford was hanging out with friends at Local in Overton Square.
Understandably it wasn’t too crowded.
However, the patio areas of Bayou Bar & Grill and Lafayette's had a good number of customers.
FOX13 spoke to a few restaurant managers.

A manager on Beale Street said they’re pleased with phase one but ready for the next step and more customers.
Another on Overton Square said they’ve haven’t experienced a big rush of customers.
Local customer Tracy Linares said she felt safe sitting inside establishments.
“Everybody’s wearing gloves. They’re wearing masks,” said Tracy Linares. “They’re standing six feet apart whenever they talk to us. I mean that’s all we can do right now.”
Burford and other Memphians were ready to fully enjoy the city again.
“Obviously we’ve all been cooped up in the house. So, it gives us a little release. Come out and enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy the city. Everything Memphis has to offer,” Burford said.
City leaders are discussing when phase two will begin.
