SCS Superintendent proposes August 31 start date for students
WATCH: SCS officials consider shift in school year after Tenn. State of Emergency extended

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Shelby County Schools Superintendent Joris Ray has proposed August 31 as the new start date for students.

This is based on the extended state of emergency declaration through August 29 made by Governor Bill Lee earlier this week.

The initial start date was August 10th.

Ray is asking parents to weigh in on two options: start on August 31 and end on June 9, with no fall break or start the same day and end a week later on June 16, with a fall break.
