Memphis, Tenn. — A man accused of making threats towards Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer is in custody, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
SCSO told FOX13 that Gerorge Johnson has been taken into custody and jailed at 201 Poplar Ave. after walking in with his attorney around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
A warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest several days after the Sons of Confederacy volunteer and Sawyer got into a verbal altercation during the removal of Nathan Bedford Forrest’s remains in Downtown Memphis.
After the altercation, Sawyer reported that she and her family received death threats while Johnson stated that he did nothing wrong.
