ARLINGTON,Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who they believe is responsible for breaking into several cars in Arlington, Tenn.
Shunkavious Nelson, 19, was arrested by SCSO deputies for theft from a motor vehicle, weapons law violations, stolen property, animal cruelty, and simple assault, according to officials.
On January 7, 2021, officers were dispatched to Wimpole Hall Dr. for reports of car break-ins.
Witnesses told police they watched Nelson walk around the area as he pulled on several car doors.
One witness said he was carrying a small handgun, police said.
Two suspects fled into a wooded area where SCSO K9 teams successfully tracked down Nelson.
According to police, he shot the K9 dog multiple times while the dog continued to bite him.
A second K9 team searched the area and found Nelson’s handgun that had been previously reported stolen.
