MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Storms and showers impacted the World Champion Barbecue Cooking Contest at Liberty Park for a short time Friday afternoon.
Event organizers said inclement weather made event officials temporarily evacuate the festival grounds and temporarily suspend admissions.
The evacuations happened just after 2 p.m. as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Shelby County.
The festival has an onsite meteorologist to monitor weather developments, officials said.
An all-clear was issued at 3:45 p.m. and normal operations resumed.
Patrons and guests were allowed to reenter the event.
Festival organizers thanked everyone “for their orderly cooperation this afternoon.”
