Six dead, at least five injured as storms rolled through the Mid-South

MONETTE, Ark. — EDIT: FOX13 originally reported that two people were killed at Monette Manor nursing home and two people were killed in Obion County. Officials later updated those numbers.

Storms rolled through the Mid-South Friday evening, leaving a trail of destruction.

Five people have been confirmed dead and at least five were injured.

The Craighead County Coroner confirmed one person was killed and at least five were injured at the Monette Manor nursing home in Monette, Ark., in Craighead County.

Widespread damage was reported throughout the small city.

Monette Manor has about 90 beds, according to the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

Residents of Monette Manor were evacuated to St. Bernard Hospital and Northeast Arkansas Baptist Hospital, according to Craighead County Dispatch.

One person was killed when a Dollar General store was destroyed on Main Street in Leachville in Mississippi County, Ark.

Earlier Friday, Gov. Asa Hutchinson said officials with the state Division of Emergency Management had reported a tornado in Mississippi County.

He also said during a press conference on Saturday morning that he has declared a state of emergency but will see in the coming days if it meets disaster requirements.

In Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Health confirmed three storm-related fatalities. This includes two fatalities in Lake County and one fatality in Obion County.

Memphis Police Department confirmed someone died in South Memphis when a tree collapsed on their home.
