Some I-55 lanes and ramps will close for restriping during I-40 bridge shutdown, officials say

MID-SOUTH — Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will be closing ramps and lanes on I-55 to improve traffic flow while the I-40 bridge is shut down.

According to a release from TDOT, ramps and lanes will be closed for restriping at the Crump Interchange.

Here are the alternate routes to get you around the I-40 bridge closure

The closure will remain in place until I-40 is reopened, the release said.

The goal is to allow I-55 traffic to free flow and not compete with merging ramp traffic.

The following lanes and ramps will be closed:

~ Loop ramp from WB Crump to I-55 South - *Detour to SR 14 (South Third Street) to W. McLemore to I-55 South

~ I-55 NB Entrance ramp from Metal Museum Dr. - *Detour to Riverside Dr. to West Mclemore Ave. to I-55 North

~ I-55 NB Exit ramp to Metal Museum Dr. - *Detour to I-55 South to West Mclemore Ave. to Riverside Dr. to Metal Museum Dr.

~ I-55 SB Entrance ramp from Metal Museum - *Detour to Riverside Dr. to West Mclemore Ave to I-55.

TDOT has a website dedicated to the I-40 bridge repair here.

Crews have begun preliminary work for phase one of the bridge repairs.

According to a release from TDOT, the Kiewit Infrastructure Group has started prepping the worksite. That includes installing a temporary platform needed to begin work on phase one of the bridge repairs.

They hope to have it assembled by Friday afternoon.

TDOT said preparations will continue through the weekend.
