MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new grocery store is coming to Downtown Memphis.
South Point Grocery is slated to open on Webster Avenue later this year.
Tom Archer, owner and president of Archer Custom Builders, partnered with CEO and owner of Castle Retail Group, Rick James, to make the grocery store a reality.
According to a release from Castle Retail Group, Archer purchased an empty building on Webster Avenue in 2017 with the idea of turning it into a grocery store for the South Main area.
Rick James, a grocery veteran of 45 years, will soon begin completing the first floor of the building that once housed Liberty Cash Grocers, Inc., the release said.
James recently purchased and renovated High Point Grocery in East Memphis and sees similarities in the two projects.
“High Point has given us the confidence that a small, neighborhood-centric store that is really attuned to the needs of the community can thrive. We will replicate that experience at our new South Point Grocery at 136 Webster Avenue,” James said in the release.
Completion of the ground floor will be done in the next few months.
The grocery store will offer fresh produce and butchered meats, an “urban style” deli and an extensive beer selection.
An opening date has not been released.
