Suspect charged with murder in man’s shooting death, robbery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police arrested another person in the shooting death and robbery of a man last year.

Police responded to a shooting just after midnight at Gill Avenue and Pillow Street Sept. 6.

According to an affidavit, they found a man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his death was later ruled a homicide.

An investigation revealed he had been lured to the location and ambushed by multiple people.

His cell phone records showed his last phone call was made approximately 17 minutes before he died to a phone belonging to Terry Wilkins, according to the affidavit.

On March 24, 2021, Wilkins was located.

He was brought into Homicide and found to have two cell phones.

His number was the same number the victim called before his death, according to the affidavit.

Wilkins said the victim saw him walking down the street and exchanged phone numbers with him. He saw the victim called him numerous times over the next few days.

He told police he and several others met up with the victim on Sept. 5 in order to steal his BMW.

He said once they reached the location, they surrounded the victim, shot him and took his key fob from his body.

Wilkins said he then drove away in the BMW, according to the affidavit.

He is charged with First Degree Murder and other crimes.
