Officers were called to the Helena Regional Medical Center Emergency Room Thursday afternoon when a woman was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was later moved to Regional One Hospital in Memphis for treatment.

At the hospital, officers spoke to an 18-year-old who said he was driving with the woman and a 1-year-old in the car near Cleburne and South Sebastian Streets when he saw a man he recognized as 19-year-old Arter.

The man told officers Arter approached his car and fired several shots.

He said he drove away and then realized the woman had been hit.

The 1-year-old child was in the back seat when the shots were fired and was not hurt.

The woman was discharged from Regional One Friday and is recovering at home, police said.
