Suspect in police chase from Arkansas to Memphis jumps 40 feet from I-240 overpass, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police arrested a man who jumped from an interstate bridge during a police chase from Arkansas into Tennessee.

On July 27, Memphis police responded to a scene at I-240 and Chelsea Avenue.

Officers were dispatched to the area after officers from the Marked Tree, Arkansas Police Department began chasing the driver of a 1992 Chevy Silverado.

According to MPD, two Arkansas squad cars were chasing the vehicle after an assault against officers in Marked Tree.

When the vehicles made it to I-240 near Thomas Street, the suspect began ramming both Arkansas officers’ vehicles.

The suspect’s vehicle blew a tire and spun out before stopping at I-240 and Chelsea.

According to MPD, the suspect bailed out and jumped from the overpass, approximately 40 feet down.

The suspect, who has not been identified, broke his left ankle.

The suspect then tried to run from the scene but was hurt. He was arrested at 1148 Coker St., MPD said.

Records showed the suspect had three warrants, including one for Evading Arrest in a Vehicle.

He was taken to St. Francis in non-critical condition, MPD said.

His truck was towed to the city lot.
