TDOT releases next steps for I-40 bridge repair

MID-SOUTH — The Tennessee Department of Transportation has released more information on how the I-40 bridge will be repaired.

Phase 1 of the bridge repairs is complete.

Next, crews will install temporary plating, TDOT said.

The availability of steel materials and fabrication times for the components required will impact the bridge’s opening date.

Then crews will remove lower lateral bracing and install PT weldments.

Crews will install PT bars.

Temporary plating will be removed, TDOT said.

What happens if the I-55 Bridge shuts down due to an emergency?

Crews will install permanent strengthening repair plates.

Lower lateral bracing will be reinstalled on the bridge, TDOT said.

The PT Assembly will then be removed, completing the repairs.
