Teens hide in trash cans after crashing stolen car, sheriff’s office says

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Three teenagers were arrested Sunday after crashing a stolen car while being pursued by members of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

According to SCSO, deputies were on the lookout for a stolen car in southeast Shelby County when they tried to conduct a traffic stop.

SCSO said that the car took off but crashed at the intersection of South Germantown Rd. and Barnstable Rd. shortly after.

Two 14-year-olds and a 17-year-old took off running, the sheriff’s office said.

One of those children was quickly found, but two others were found hiding in nearby trash cans, according to the sheriff’s office.

SCSO reported finding an AR rifle from one of the children.

All three of the teenagers have been charged with evading arrest and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.

One of the teens was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
