ARKANSAS — A toddler was found dead in her mother’s car.

Three-year-old Laykn Petchenik and her 15-month-old sister Olivia Petchenik were found inside the car that was parked outside of their mother’s home Monday.

The Arkansas State Police said Kaylee Petchenik, the two girls’ mother, called the police after she woke up from a nap and noticed her children were missing.

Police found both girls unconscious, lying on the car’s back floorboard.

The three-year-old was later pronounced dead at a Boonville hospital, officials said.

Her body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.

The 15-month-old is still in the hospital in stable but critical condition.

The Arkansas State Police said in a statement:

“Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are leading the investigation and will submit a case file to the Logan County prosecuting attorney for consideration.”
