PANOLA COUNTY, Miss. — A 19-year-old Memphis woman is one of two people shot and killed at a rap concert in north Mississippi over the weekend.
Panola County Sheriff's investigators along with Memphis police and federal investigators are trying to figure out what caused shooters to open fire at the concert early Sunday morning.
Facebook video captured the shooting at a rap concert in a field near the Panola-Tate County line. According to investigators, someone fired more than 50 shots.
“We looked at the videos, and I can’t remember a situation that even pales in comparison to what happened yesterday morning,” said District Attorney John Champion. “I don’t know if it is a reflection of the world we are living in, but it was in fact senseless.”
The coroner identified the shooting victims who were killed as 19-year-old Jasmine Bradshaw of Memphis and 37-year-old Elvie Wilbourn. Three other people were shot, and three others wound up in the hospital after people running from the scene ran over them.
Investigators told FOX13 nobody is talking. There are no suspects. Police said they believe the shooting may be connected to gangs in Memphis.
“Somebody out there knows what happened and saw what happened, and if they care about these individuals like we do, they need to come forward. There needs to be some sense of right and wrong in the world, and this is wrong what happened,” said Champion.
Investigators were back on scene Monday morning looking for more evidence. They said none of it makes any sense.
“We can find no incident which led to the beginning of this and why this started,” Champion said. “Why did people feel the need to pull out guns and start shooting indiscriminately ito the crowd? It makes no sense to any of us.”
