MEMPHIS, Tenn. — While many colleges are dealing with outbreaks of the coronavirus, the University of Memphis said it has had 227 exposures since April among students and staff.

That includes just 15 active cases among students on campus.

FOX13 spoke to students about what the university is doing to make a difference.

An interesting thing to note, on the University of Memphis Campus, almost everywhere you go, there is a reminder to wear a mask.

Several students we talked to told us all of their classes are online.

Freshman Jazmine Edgerson of Memphis said there are always constant reminders from the university.

We get e-mails every single day, there are signs posted all around campus reminding you to wash your hands and about other things to control the spread of COVID-19.

Sophomore Javia Burton of Memphis said that’s a good thing.

“It makes me feel safe because this is a large university and I have heard of a lot of different Universities having to close and I am glad that our numbers are small and that we don’t have to close,” Burton said.

Freshman Brianna Edgerson of Memphis said there can never be enough reminders.

“It makes me feel safe but I feel like not as many people are wearing them or washing their hands as they should be,” she said.
