“Very frustrating”: Customer care center is just 60% staffed at MLGW

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Customers of the Bluff City’s only utility company say they must call dozens of times to just get on hold with Memphis, Light, Gas and Water.

“It’s very frustrating because my lights got turned off,” said Brenaye Reid, who was leaving the Lamar location on Wednesday evening.

A spokeswoman for the utility company confirmed just 68 of the 112 positions at the Customer Care Center are staffed. Their staffing level is just more than 60%.

The MLGW spokeswoman said there are extended hours to accommodate the increased call volume.

She declined to allow FOX13 inside the center because “Call Center staff are working 11-hour days to assist customers and we are minimizing disruptions.”
