OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — One day into the new year and three families say their lives are forever changed after a triple shooting in Olive Branch early Friday morning.
The family of one of the victims, John Sutherland, spoke exclusively to FOX13 about the loss.
“Today was John’s birthday and he would’ve been 32 years old,” said Nicole Marie.
Sutherland leaves behind a 3-year-old son with who he was scheduled to spend the day with.
“As a parent, it breaks my heart because you don’t know how to explain that to a 3-year-old and it’s been hard,” said Marie.
Family and friends left flowers at the scene of where the shooting happened.
According to Olive Branch Police Department the alleged shooter, 26-year-old Ivan Rodriguez, drove from his home in Cordova to Olive Branch before the shooting.
We stopped at Rodriguez’s house to possibly talk to his family. They declined to comment.
“I think we should really just try to bond together as a neighborhood so we can really know what’s going on with each other,” said Lee Dodson, who lives near Rodriguez.
Sutherland’s family said they hope for justice for not only John and his son, but for the families of the two other victims.
Rodriguez was arrested, without incident, charged with 3 counts of First Degree Murder, and is currently held without bond.
Rodriguez will appear in court on January 28 at 9:00 a.m. at the Olive Branch Municipal Court.
The Olive Branch coroner identified the two other victims as 33-year old Tyler Liles and 40-year old Tommi Carrier.
