Violent stretch of gun violence in Memphis leaves 7 dead, including teenage boy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — This weekend, the bloodshed continued in the City of Memphis as shootings left at least 7 people dead, including a teenage boy.

Friday

On Friday evening shortly after 10 p.m., officers were on the scene of a shooting to the 600 block of E Shelby Dr. Police said they found a man inside the business who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they believe the shooting stemmed from an argument.

Saturday

The shootings continue into Saturday at 4:39 am, officers responded to a call at Hyacinth Dr. & Hyacinth Cv. One man shooting victim was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

At the Hickory Farm Apartment Homes in the 3800 block of Hickory Farms Dr. in Hickory Hill, a group stood watch where Memphis police said one of their latest homicide investigations unfolded.

Saturday afternoon at about 3:40 p.m., police said another teenage boy gave a 16-year-old girl a gun before turning it on a 17-year-old boy in what police said was an accidental shooting. The child was taken into custody and charged with reckless homicide, and the boy that police said gave her the gun was charged with possession of a handgun.

Sunday

By daylight, neighbors, relatives, and friends gathered at a home near Orange Mound and just south of Kimball Ave., where police said two people were found dead after being shot multiple times. Police said they were called to a home in the 1400 block of Amarillo St. at 12:20 a.m. Sunday.

At 2:12 a.m. Sunday, police said they responded to a shooting in the 5300 block of Horseshoe Tr., detailing a crime they said started with an altercation.

In the end, they said one person was shot dead, and another pistol-whipped and taken to the hospital.

Among the crowd, a heartbroken man, identifying himself as the father of one of the victims, said his son lives inside the home.

The man, and those there, he said, were awaiting answers from investigators as to exactly what took place.

Finally, a man was shot to death inside of a Memphis motel room Sunday night.

According to the Memphis Police Department, around 9:30 p.m. a struggle inside of a room at the Colonial Inn on East Shelby Drive turned to gunfire, leaving a man lifeless and a suspect on the run.
