Website claims Ole Miss is under investigation for Title IX violations

OXFORD, Miss. — A website dedicated to softball claims the program at Ole Miss is being investigated for Title IX violations.

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The website called Running Poles reports the complaint involves a relationship between a coach and player.

FOX13 reached out to the University and to the athletic department and to the NCAA.

A website called Running Poles reports Ole Miss softball is being investigated because of an inappropriate relationship between a coach and player.

The site claims another player took screengrabs of messages between the player and the coach.

Ole Miss fan Jay Hutchins spoke his mind. ”Yeah I already know it’s not a good look for the team.” Hutchins said.

Running Poles claims they have a letter between the NCAA and Ole Miss Athletics regarding the investigation.

Running Poles claims that yet a second coach tried to cover up whatever happened by offering one of the players scholarship money to be quiet.

Ole Miss fan Asa Chandler says he’s not sure what to believe.

”Yeah absolutely hoping that it is not true and hopefully that the investigation will shed some light on what actually did happen and like I said I hope it is not true but we’ll see.” Chandler said.

An Ole Miss spokesperson would only tell FOX13 that the university does not comment on Title IX reviews.

FOX13 has also reached out to the U.S. Department of Education and Running Poles for comment.
