What to pack and how to prepare your car for winter weather

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — With snowy weather in the forecast, FOX13 wants to make sure you’re staying warm and safe.

For the basics, you should be sure to have bottled water – you never know when you’ll need to stay hydrated.

For the snow and ice, you should at least have an ice scraper, one side for the ice on your windshield and the other to brush off the snow.

You should keep at least one blanket in your backseat or trunk for warmth.

So what happens when you end up being in the car longer than expected?

First, you should always have a first aid kit. It should have band-aids, rubber gloves, aspirin, and anything else you may need in case of injuries.

Handwarmers also come in handy to keep your fingers from freezing.

When you know there’s snow or ice in the forecast, lift your windshield wipers to make sure they don’t break or get stuck.

Of course, the best advice is to stay off the roads with snow or ice, but if you can’t, make sure you’re being careful.

You can buy most of these items at your local grocery or drugstore.
