MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to climb and so does the demand for tests. So, what are some of the best places to get tested and the price range?

Medical experts said it’s better to be tested sooner rather than later.

You don’t want to forget that this virus spreads from asymptomatic people as well as those who show clear signs for the virus.

The Shelby County Health Department said they’ve seen concerning numbers of increases with the virus and medical experts are encouraging everyone who may be concerned to be tested.

“We’re doing a lot more testing. People are calling daily about the tests. We’re getting more and more test kits in. They’re overnighted most of the time so we can have enough to provide to the public.”

Jennifer Miller at the Urgent Team in Bartlett said they’ve seen an influx of people testing for COVID-19 as the number of confirmed cases in Shelby county well surpass ten thousand.

“With the rise of Shelby county cases going up so much it’s important to be tested to know if you have the virus,” Miller said.

She said Urgent Team is one of the many places offering the test for free with walk-ins or scheduled appointments. They say patients get their results in 24 to 48 hours.

It’s one of the fastest locations to have results available.

St. Francis Hospital said results come back in 2 to 4 days and they conduct tests while patients are in the emergency room.

While Methodist Le Bonheur hospitals are not community testing sites, hospital adult emergency departments are screening/testing those who seek treatment.

Baptist Memorial Hospital doesn’t charge for tests, but the kits themselves are between $50 to $100. According to a hospital spokesperson, patients are not billed if they don’t have insurance. They say you get your results to come back in 3 to 5 days.

Regional One has a three to the five-day period for results and the test comes at no cost to the patient.

Drive through locations at certain Walgreens and CVS locations are free but the Summer location has the longest wait time for getting results, telling me around 5 to 7 business days.

Other locations for both chains have some locations that have results in as quickly as an hour as do some Urgent Cares.

Regardless of where you go, call before you go to find out how long results will take but the bottom line is Medical Experts say testing is important to help limit the spread of the virus.

“Make sure you get tested and make sure you wear your mask to prevent exposure to someone else.”

All these places say it’s best to call in advance even if there are walk-ins so things can move as smoothly as possible and ensure social distancing for a safe atmosphere.
