Memphis-Shelby County Schools is the largest school district in the state of Tennessee and one of the 25 largest in the country. Currently, more than 100,000 students from urban, rural, and suburbia attend more than 200 MSCS schools. The schools include charter, elementary, middle, and high schools in our area. SCS is the second largest employer in Memphis with almost 14,000 employers and 6,000 teachers. The district is currently focused on early literacy, improving post-secondary readiness, developing strong, innovative teachers, administrators, and staff, and working directly with families and community partners.
MSCS is home to more than 60,000 economically disadvantaged students and relies on the support of volunteers, and school adopters to impact students. The district is targeting 90% of its third graders to be proficient readers by 2025. It’s also working to improve its graduation rate to 90% by the year 2025.
DeSoto County School District contains 41 schools and 34,067 students. The district’s minority enrollment is 50%. Also, 68.7% of students are economically disadvantaged.
