Woman allegedly set fire to father’s house to put him in retirement home, records show

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is behind bars after allegedly setting fire to a home in Memphis.

Memphis firefighters responded to a 911 call in the 2000 block of Hubert Avenue on March 11.

According to an affidavit, smoke and fire were coming from the rear of a one-story home.

MFD extinguished the blaze began an investigation.

A witness told investigators that he and his sister, identified as Cherry Adams, 27, were smoking weed Adams said she wanted to put their dad in a retirement home.

The witness asked how she would put him in a retirement home, and Adams said she was going to get $3 worth of gas, some vodka and a beer bottle to burn the house down, the affidavit said.

Adams reportedly said, “Y’all know I’m crazy so all I will get is six months.”

Adams did not know anyone was inside the home at the time of the fire, records show.

She allegedly caused $45,000 worth of damage to her father’s home.

She is charged with Aggravated Arson.
