MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is behind bars after a man was critically injured during a shooting at a local convenience store while several children were present.
Memphis police responded July 16 to an aggravated assault at a convenience store in the 2700 block of Mendenhall.
According to an affidavit, police found a man lying on the floor with gunshot wounds.
He told police someone had taken his gun and shot him.
He was rushed to Regional One with severe internal organ damage, records show.
Video of the shooting showed the suspect arrive at the store a minute after the victim.
Several men and women got out of the suspect’s vehicle, a black Infiniti SUV.
Three young children also got out of the suspect’s vehicle, according to the affidavit.
While the victim was standing near the register, one of the men reached out and tried to take his gun.
When the victim turned and grabbed his arm, two other men pointed guns at him, records show.
A woman with red hair stepped forward and tried to help the suspects subdue the victim, the affidavit said.
The victim was then shot several times, and the suspects ran to the SUV.
The children were still in the store as the victim laid in the floor screaming for help, records show.
A suspect identified as Tenister Evans ran to the door, stood over the victim and yelled for the kids to come back to the SUV.
According to the affidavit, she slapped one of the children in the face before getting in the back of the SUV.
Evans then drove the vehicle away from the store, records show.
She was identified in a photo lineup and charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery, Accessory After the Fact and Child Abuse.
Evans is being held at Jail East on a $100,000 bond, records show.
She was previously charged with stealing over $1,000 hair from a local beauty store in 2016.
