Woman charged in fatal shooting of man at South Memphis store

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police have arrested a woman following a homicide in South Memphis.

On July 23, officers responded to a Dollar Tree in the 1800 block of S. Third St.

They found a man lying unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds, records show.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead just after 5 p.m.

According to an affidavit, a witness told police she was checking out at the store’s register when she saw an employee follow a man out into the parking lot.

The employee was identified as Ashley Croom, 32,

The witness said she heard two gunshots then saw Croom walk back into the store putting a black gun in her pants, records show.

Croom was taken to Homicide, where she admitted to shooting the man twice in the parking lot, according to an affidavit.

She’s charged with Second-Degree Murder.
