MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating a stabbing that left one woman dead.
Preston Lyons, 41, was charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his mother.
Officers responded to the 4500 block of Whiteside Street about 9:31 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they located Rosalind Lyons lying in the driveway bleeding from several stab wounds, an affidavit said.
The victim was treated at the scene and did not survive her injuries, police said.
A witness was located and said that she assisted the victim while waiting for the ambulance.
The witness said the victim stated to her “help me, help me, my son hurt me.”
The witness told police that the victim lived with her son on Whiteside Street.
Officers found Preston Lyons at his home, arrested him, and took him to the homicide bureau, police said.
According to police, Preston Lyons was read his Miranda Rights and waived his rights.
He gave a statement and admitted to stabbing the victim five times with a kitchen knife and putting her outside, the affidavit said.
According to MPD, a homicide investigator executed a search warrant at the home and saw a bloody knife with a bent 6-inch blade on the living room floor.
He is due in court on Thursday.
