Woman in hospital after getting trampled on Beale Street last weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is recovering in the hospital after some chaotic moments on Beale Street last week.

Alexus Whitfield says she was about to leave the iconic party street when she tripped and was trampled by a crowd running down the street.

Whitfield says her injuries are so severe she can’t even feel one of her legs.

Memphis police say they responded to a couple of fights that evening, including one around 2 a.m.

“I was in shock. I was literally holding my leg and I was like how, like why,” said Whitfield.

Whitfield said her leg got dislocated, and she tore several nerves.

But she said the most painful part of this recovery is being away from her three-year-old son.

“I have to send him back home to my mom’s so she can take care of him because I won’t be able to do it,” she said.

With thousands expected this weekend for the Memorial Day holiday, she’s urging people to be safe.

“Everybody needs to be careful, it’s a lot of people out there, there’s not really nowhere for you to run,” she said.

Whitfield said she could be in the hospital for the next several months so she started a GoFundMe page to try to get some help with her medical expenses.
