Woman shot to death while holding child at Frayser apartments, neighbor says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was gunned down in Frayser as bullets flew through a window, shooting her dead inside an apartment. Neighbors said she was holding a child at the time.

At the spot where police said the woman was killed, several bullet holes could be seen after bullets entered an apartment through a glass window at the Rolling Hills Apartments.

Police said the shooting happened at about 11 p.m.

Neighbors Saturday morning said the woman was holding a child when she was shot.

Police did not identify her and said they did not have any suspect information.

“All I heard was nine shots,” said a woman Saturday morning, who declined to be identified, too afraid of retaliation to show her face on camera.

She said she was watching TV in her apartment when she heard a woman scream after the shooting.

“I was like oh my God! I told my baby to get down,” she said.

By Saturday morning, children were seen playing outside as remnants of crime scene tape sat on the ground nearby, along with the haunting memory of what happened.

“Since I have a daughter, it makes me feel sad because it could have been one of our kids,” said the woman.
