Woman threatens to shoot two women and children after argument, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman landed behind bars after an argument the day before Thanksgiving left two other women and two children fearing for their lives, according to police.

Memphis police said that they were waived down at the scene of an argument between two women on Raines Rd. on Tuesday.

At the scene, a woman told police that she and 28-year-old Monikka Burton began arguing, leading Burton to go to her car and pull out a gun.

The woman told police that, as she was sitting in a vehicle, Burton pointed the gun at her, her mother and two children and threatened to shoot everybody in the car, according to a police affidavit.

A Memphis police officer reported that he saw a gun inside of Burton’s front jacket pocket and that Burton went back to her car and put the gun back under her seat.

Burton was arrested and charged with four counts of felony aggravated assault.
