Woman will not face charges after shooting man in domestic incident, police say

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A woman was not charged after police say she shot a man during a domestic incident. However, the man is charged with aggravated assault.

Dyersburg police responded to a report of a man who was shot on Sam Davis Road Sunday night.

Officers arrived and found the shooting victim in the driveway of the home he shares with a 51-year-old female companion.

The shooting victim, identified as 52-year-old Marty Jones, told officers that the woman shot him while they were inside the home.

Officers found the woman still inside the residence armed with a handgun. She complied with the officers’ orders and turned over the gun.

The woman told officers that an argument between the two resulted in her retreating to the bedroom where the handgun was stored. She told officers the man charged at her and began hitting her. The woman fired several rounds from the gun, hitting the man.

Jones was airlifted to Regional Medical Center in Memphis where his condition is unknown.

Jones will face aggravated assault charges upon his release from the hospital.

No charges will be filed against the woman.
