MID-SOUTH — Time is winding down to be counted for the 2020 Census.
If you haven’t responded yet there is still time but not a lot.
The census ends at 3:59 a.m. Friday.
At this point we’ve all heard a lot of talk about the U.S. Census but why is it so important?
“It is so very important whether people realize it or not," said Lovell Ray. "We have to have the census, we have to have the number because those dollars are not coming. If the numbers are not there the dollars won’t be there.”
The U.S. Census survey is data used to divide congressional seats by state and allocate trillions of fo dollars, which is crucial for the Mid-South.
“It’s important because we need to be represented,” said Shelly Hurt.
The U.S. Census reported in 2010 the Black population was undercounted by 2.1% and the Latino community was undercounted by 1.5 %.
With less than 24 hours left to fill out the U.S. Census, there are a couple of options.
You can call the census customer service hotline at 844-330-2020 which is open until 1 a.m. Friday or go online at 2020census.gov.
“Five minutes. Just click on the link. It is simple. Don’t just not do it,” said Ray.
