Tyrone Nichols, one of the men arrested in Wednesday’s raid of a Bartlett home, is a Memphis firefighter.
The Memphis Fire Department confirmed that Nichols has been with the department since September 2015 and is stationed at Station 33.
Nichols is currently off the job with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The other man arrested was Colton Cathey.
On Wednesday afternoon, investigators from agencies including the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office raided a Bartlett home on Carolot Lane. In all, six luxury vehicles were seized by authorities.
“They’re investigating because the cars are supposedly stolen,” Carl McDougle told FOX13.
McDougle is Colton Cathey’s uncle. He doesn’t believe the accusations made against his family member.
“He’s just a young entrepreneur. He does tattoos. He rents high-end cars out,” McDougle said.
FOX13 uncovered a Facebook business page for Cathey. Its name is AxA A1’s Xclusive Auto.
Cathey says on the page that he own a few businesses and he buys gold, silver, shoes and tech devices, in addition to selling exclusive cars and more.
Memphis police said Colton Cathey and Tyrone Nichols sold a 2014 Lexus to a man in Illinois for $26,000. Authorities also said the men gave the victim a fake temporary tag.
The man found out the car was stolen after taking it to a Lexus dealership for repairs. The dealer, according to police, found the vehicle’s identification number didn’t match.
“Now once you see that there’s nothing illegal, make sure this is reported,” McDougle told FOX13.
