DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — The National Weather Service has confirmed from a preliminary damage survey that two tornadoes touched down in Desoto County early Saturday morning.
According to their preliminary survey, both Tate and Desoto County experienced an EF-1 tornado with winds estimated at 100 mph.
There was also an EF-2 tornado spotted in Desoto County, east of Hernando, MS with winds estimated at 120 mph.
The damage was severe enough Governor Phil Bryant signed a declaration that Mississippi is under a state of emergency.
