MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tenn. Gov. Bill Lee and other dignitaries are expected to attend Wednesday's grand opening of the Georgette and Cato Johnson YMCA in Whitehaven.
The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at 4727 Elvis Presley Blvd.
Plans for the new building were announced in 2021. Price for the Y cost around $12.5 million.
Formerly called the Thomas Davis YMCA that was built in 1959, the new facility was funded publicly by the Assisi Foundation, the City of Memphis, Plough Foundation and Shelby County Government.
Corporate funders include AutoZone, Brown Missionary Baptist Church, Cigna, Elvis Presley Enterprises, FedEx, Sedgewick, Valero and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.
