The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Shanynthia Gardner has been charged in the stabbing death of four of her children.
Sheriff Bill Oldham told FOX13 Gardner killed her three daughters ages, who were in the age range of six months old to less than 4-years-old and one of her sons, who was 4 1/2-years-old .
During the news conference, the sheriff confirmed one child, a 7-year-old boy, was able to escape.
Gardner is charged with four counts of first degree murder, four counts of child abuse, and four counts of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
On Friday, deputies were called to the 4700 block of Southern Hills Drive at the Greens at Irene apartments complex in response to the tragic situation. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of the four children.
Gardner, who remained at the scene of the crime, was taken into custody and transported to 201 Poplar.
