• Utility: Thousands remain without power in west Tennessee

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Utility officials in west Tennessee say power may not be fully restored for thousands of customers until Tuesday after severe thunderstorms moved through the area.

    Memphis Light, Gas and Water says in a news release high wind gusts and heavy rains knocked down utility poles and trees on Saturday night, knocking out electrical service to more than 40,000 customers.

    The company says more than 12,000 customers were without power late Sunday morning and crews are working to assess the damage.
