The Outback Steakhouse off I-75 in Stockbridge was robbed shortly after 11 p.m., Henry County police Sgt. John Davis said.

The men knocked on a side door used for to-go orders that was eventually opened by an unsuspecting employee, a witness told Channel 2 Action News.

That’s when two armed men wearing masks stormed the restaurant, helping themselves to a tip jar, a cash register and workers’ cellphones, police said.

The men then ran out the restaurant’s front door and hopped into a car where a third person was waiting, Davis said. A brief chase ensued and the vehicle was abandoned on I-75 near the Walt Stephens overpass.

As the three suspects exited their vehicle, officers heard about five gunshots. It's unclear whether the men were aiming at police or just firing into the air, Davis said.

Henry police called in K-9 units and the Georgia State Patrol to assist in the search. One man was detained, but later released after it was determined he was not involved in the robbery, Davis said.

Despite the incident, the restaurant opened Sunday morning as normal.
