A man died Monday morning after he apparently jumped onto subway tracks in New York City while holding his young daughter, according to multiple reports.
Police told WABC that the man, identified as a 45-year-old, jumped onto tracks just before 8 a.m. at the Kingsbridge Road subway station in the Bronx. At the time, he was holding his 5-year-old daughter, WPIX reported.
Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to The New York Times. Police told the newspaper the man's daughter suffered scratches and lacerations, but that her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, the Times reported.
Fire officials told WNBC two bystanders suffered minor injuries when they tried to help the man and his daughter. They were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment of their injuries, the Times reported.
It was not immediately clear what caused the man to jump. An unidentified detective told the Times police were investigating the incident as a suicide.
