Sergey Kocharov has had some good fortune -- professionally, and now, personally.
Last year, the Washington Capitals' vice president of communications had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup. Last month, Kocharov won $1 million playing Powerball.
Kocharov bought five quick pick Powerball tickets, and one ticket matched five of the six numbers,
"I saw the Powerball sign and said, 'I may as well try it,'" Kocharov said.
The winning numbers were 1-19-31-48-61, and the Powerball number was 6, according to the Virginia Lottery. Kocharov's ticket was the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers and one of three nationwide, lottery officials said.
While Kocharov would not comment beyond his statement to the Virginia Lottery, he did give his father credit for his windfall.
"Let it be known that this idea was all from my old man," Kocharov tweeted. "Couldn't be more happier for my dad — the hardest working family man and my role model. Be at work tomorrow."
