Georgia shooting leaves 4 dead, including police officer, suspect

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Four people – including a police officer, two women and the suspect – are dead following a domestic violence incident and shootout in Georgia, WSB-TV is reporting.

According to the news outlet, the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday in Clayton County, south of Atlanta. Clayton County police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance near Highway 42 and Interstate 675, then received a call about a child who had been shot at another location, authorities said.

Police then responded to Jervis Court, where they found the injured 12-year-old boy and attempted to assist one of the female victims, WSB-TV reported. A suspect began shooting at the officers, who returned fire, authorities said.

Police said Field Training Officer Henry Laxson and the suspect, whose name has not been released, were killed in the shootout. Another police officer, Alex Chandler, was hurt, officials said.

Police Chief Kevin Roberts said overnight that investigators believe the suspect fatally shot the two women and wounded the boy before officers arrived.
