Brazen thieves broke into a California lumber yard and within eight minutes, drove off with thousands of dollars worth of wood.
The owners of Holt Lumber in Fresno said they have been the frequent target of thieves, being hit a couple of times a week on average, KFSN reported.
But this theft may have been more planned than others.
This time, the alleged criminals did not just pick or break the locks securing the property. Instead, they used a Sawzall to cut through the gate, KMPH reported.
“These guys were calculated thieves. They came in with the right tools, the right equipment, and showed up ready to get it done,” David Powers, who is part of the Holt Lumber family, told KMPH.
The alleged burglars backed up a trailer to haul a stack of 200, 16-foot-long 2x4s, using a makeshift ramp to slide the wood from the stack onto the trailer. When all was said and done, they had a load worth a few thousand dollars that had to be tied down.
Powers isn’t sure why the wood was taken but believes releasing the video of the quick getaway will help the police catch the men.
“They could have used it on their own project and that’s kind of why we put it out there. Somebody see’s these guys and they’re working on their project or maybe they’re peddling it. Maybe they are selling it,” Powers told KMPH.
