50-year-old Monica Johnson-Markworth told detectives that she has been in contact with her son who is incarcerated at Trousdale Turner Correctional Facility.

She told authorities that her son informed her that a gang had ordered a hit on her and her son, her arrest affidavit reads.

Deputies said that Johnson-Markworth claimed to be sitting in her living room with a family member around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27 when she saw on security cameras a man in a hoodie carrying an assault rifle running up to her front door.

She told deputies that she yelled "their here" and ran upstairs to hide.

Detectives at the scene said that they found two bullet holes in Johnson-Markworth's door and two shell casings inside of the home, one near the stairs.

The person who was shot turned out to be an Aptive Pest Control door-to-door salesman who was wearing a blue Polo shirt, a blue baseball hat and carrying an iPad, deputies said.

That salesman was shot in the upper torso and rushed to Regional One in critical condition, SCSO said.

Johnson-Markworth denied shooting the salesman but a witness at the scene identified her as the shooter and identified the gun used in the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

When deputies searched the house, they said they found that gun in a crawl space of the attic that Johnson-Markworth was hiding in.

Johnson-Markworth was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
