Desoto County, Miss. — A home owners worst nightmare happened on Skyline Drive, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.

DCSO says the home owner at 4275 Skyline Drive in Desoto County was walking out of the house when she heard lightning and noticed smoke.

She immediately ran to save her dog and the two escaped the house, unharmed.

The house, however, wasn’t so lucky.

After lightning struck the attic, the attic caught on fire.

Emergency services from DeSoto County, Hernando Fire Department, Nesbit, Love and Eudora were able to contain the fire to the attic.

But, the water that those firefighters had to spay over the attic caused the sheetrock and ceiling to cave in and give way.

There’s no word yet on just how much the damage will cost to repair.
