Coronavirus outbreak: What you need to know

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Many people across the Mid-South have filed applications for unemployment assistance due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Last week in Tennessee, 518,073 people filed for unemployment, 15.8 percent of the state’s workforce, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

In Arkansas, 215,043 people filed for unemployment, 18 percent of the state’s workforce.

In Mississippi, 269,014 people filed for unemployment, 24.2 percent of the state’s workforce.

Total unemployment claims filed last week in all three states total 1,002,129, or 17.9 percent of the Mid-South workforce.
