Labor Day weekend in Memphis: Three fun and safe events

Memphis, Tenn. — Tired of being stuck inside? Check out these three ways you can get out, enjoy the sunshine in the Bluff City and do it safely this Labor Day weekend.

  1. Free games at Tom Lee Park: Experience another type of “zooming” on the river this weekend with free skate rentals and yard games. Memphis River Parks announced that RiverPlay will be in full effect and a cart full of hula hoops, yard games, kites and balls will be provided for the public’s fun. The activities will be provided between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. all weekend. You won’t need any money, but you will need an ID to enjoy the skates and games. Mask and social distancing will also be required.
  2. Peace in the Southeast: Melodies, poetry and smooth grooves will fill the air Monday on the ground where a confederate statue once stood at Fourth Bluff Park. Renaissance man, Bertram Williams of Deep Water Media and Starz’s P-Valley join forces with the Memphis River Parks to host the “Peace Project”. This all day event is free with the goal being to “make this space for healing ,peace and inspiration for all who step foot onto the now hallowed ground,” according to Memphis River Parks.
  3. Kayak Rentals: You don’t have to go far to get on the water this weekend. Take advantage of walk-up rentals this Sunday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at 4th Cup in River Garden or make an appointment for a tour of the Mighty Mississippi with Kayak Memphis.
