MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Parents who are having a hard time finding diapers for their infant or toddler children have an opportunity to receive free diapers this weekend.
Cori Smith is the giving heart that’s been heading Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry since 2014.
“I know you all have experienced going to the store. You can’t find toilet paper, can’t find hand sanitizer. Families are also finding out they can’t find diapers, they can’t find wipes,” Smith said.
In 2019 Sweet Cheeks donated 96,000 diapers to families.
Smith showed FOX13 her warehouse, where there are currently 40,000 diapers.
“We are probably going to go through these Saturday so we definitely depend on our community to donate diapers donate monetarily. All the diapers you see were either donated or purchased with money donated by our community,” Smith said.
Those donations are how she continues to bless families throughout the year.
Smith told FOX13’s Jeremy Pierre the donations have become extremely important, especially due to canceling two of her biggest fundraisers of the year because of the coronavirus health crisis.
“This pandemic is affecting everybody in every way, not just low income. And before this pandemic, our community was already suffering. One in four families in Shelby County struggled to provide diapers for their families. So this just makes it ten times worse,” Smith said.
Smith says at the last distribution drive 400 families received diapers.
She told Jeremy she’s expecting to see many more families this weekend.
“We are not turning anyone away on Saturday. If you need them, come get them,” Smith said.
Feminine hygiene products will also be given away at tomorrow’s event.
The diaper distribution will take place tomorrow morning at 3292 Winbrook Road in Whitehaven from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
