Man arrested after hitting, kicking MPD officer, records show

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police arrested a 33-year-old man after he reportedly assaulted an officer.

The officer was on patrol Jan. 19 near Sam Cooper and Perkins when he saw a blue Dodge pickup run a traffic light.

The truck’s tag came back stolen, according to an affidavit.

The truck pulled into a parking lot in the 4000 block of Summer Avenue when the officer made a traffic stop.

The driver, Caleb Delashmite, attempted to flee when the officer tried to detain him, according to the affidavit.

Delashmite reportedly grabbed the officer, and the two began fighting.

Delashmite hit the officer in the groin when on of his wrists was handcuffed, according to the affidavit.

The officer was also hit in the head.

When the officer used pepper spray, Delashmite reportedly began kicking him multiple times in the groin.

Delashmite then got back into his truck and fled.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

Two days later, police saw Delashmite’s truck around 3 a.m. in the 1500 block of Sycamore View.

According to the affidavit, Delashmite fled on foot and left the truck behind.

Police searched the truck and the hotel room where Delashmite was staying.

He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest and other crimes.
