Man arrested in Memphis for attempted carjacking

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police have arrested a man for an attempted carjacking.

The incident happened Aug. 2 in the 5400 block of Hacks Cross Road, according to an affidavit.

The victim told police he was on the phone in his truck when the suspect began pulling him from the truck aggressively.

The suspect threatened to pull a weapon if the victim did not exit the truck.

The suspect, Eddie Shelby, 39, began punching the victim, according to the affidavit.

The two became involved in a physical altercation.

The victim was able to hold Shelby on the ground while others came to help.

They tied a belt around Shelby’s arms and legs to prevent him from leaving, according to the affidavit.

Police found two pocket knives on Shelby.

He was identified as a suspect in an earlier burglary in Collierville.

Shelby has been charged with Attempted Carjacking.
