Man charged in rape of woman near Court Square, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police have arrested a man for a rape that happened Downtown over the weekend.

According to an affidavit, the incident happened Sunday near Court Square.

Police found an unconscious woman wearing only a bra lying face down near the fountain.

A witness told police he saw Luther Christopher Walker, 38, sexually assault the woman.

The witness said he fought Walker off twice.

Prior to the assault, Walker had been walking around the area with his privates exposed, according to the affidavit.

The victim was taken to Regional One.

According to the affidavit, police found Walker near Court Avenue and Front street.

He was taken to 201 Poplar and charged with Aggravated Rape.
